REPUBLIC OF GUYANA: THE MAKING OF A “NEW DUBAI” IN THE SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICAN CONTINENT

By any measure, Guyana is hardly the wealthiest of nations, but fortunes are set to change for the only English-speaking country in South America. Huge offshore oil reserves have recently been discovered and are set to transform Guyana into a global oil-rich economy. In effect, this most strategically located country which is more or less the same size as United Kingdom could soon become the “New Dubai” of central and South America.
